The list of cities where we ride the best by bike has just come out. Strasbourg comes out on top for the big cities and Grenoble for the medium cities. In the capital of the Alps, traveling by bike is becoming easier, more pleasant and more secure. Europe 1 went there.

REPORTAGE

Grenoble is one of the cities where cycling is the most pleasant, according to a barometer published by the Federation of bicycle users. In the capital of the Alps, it is thanks to a cycle highway that one moves: "Chronovélo" and its twenty kilometers of tracks were built in two years in the city center.

The track is about four meters wide, allows traffic in both directions and is separated from the carriageway by a concrete border fifteen centimeters high. This last point was a request "from all cyclists", ensures the microphone of Europe 1 Emmanuel Colin de Verdière, president of the cycling association ADTC Grenoble.

"Isolated from cars"

Previously, bikes were traveling on a bike path, borderless and in the wrong direction. It was dangerous and sometimes congested by cars parked in double file. "We are isolated from cars, we feel safe, it's really practical," says Anaïs, a Chronovelo user. "It makes my trips easier," adds Romain. "We're going a little faster and it's safer."

Another 20 km should be built by 2022 in the Grenoble area. The objective is to arrive at a hundred kilometers of cycle path in 2030, but that could depend on the re-election of the ecological mayor of Grenoble, Eric Piolle.
