The presidential election in Togo will take place on February 22. In power since 2005, Faure Gnassingbé is a candidate for a fourth term. For this ballot, now with two rounds and open to the diaspora, six candidates face the outgoing president. RFI gave them the floor before the campaign opened on February 6.

The outgoing president, Faure Gnassingbé , is seeking a fourth term with his party, the Union for the Republic (Unir). RFI received its representative, the Minister for Human Rights Christian Trimua.

Jean-Pierre Fabre is president of the National Alliance for Change. In 2015, he was Faure Gnassingbé's main challenger with 35% of the vote.

Former vice-rector of the University of Benin in Lomé, Aimé Tchabouré Gogué is a candidate for the second time in the Togolese presidential election for the Alliance for Democracy and Integral Development (ADDI). In 2015, it gathered 4.3% of the vote. His political adviser, François Kampatib, agreed to answer questions from RFI on his behalf.

Komi Wolou is the national secretary of the Socialist Pact for Renewal (PSR), several times spokesperson for political groups. He is also a university professor and is trying, for the first time, his chance for the presidential election.

Mohamed Tchassona Traoré , president of the Citizen Movement for Democracy and Development (MCD), was an unsuccessful candidate in the 2015 presidential election with only 0.9% of the vote. He presents himself for the second time.

Before moving to the opposition, Agbéyomé Kodjo was the Prime Minister of Gnassingbé Eyadema. He is now head of the Patriotic Movement for Democracy and Development (MPDD).
