A Turkish passenger plane derailed on the runway today, Wednesday, at Sabiha Gokcen International Airport on the Asian side of Istanbul, causing injuries after splitting in two.

Turkish media reported that a low-cost Turkish passenger plane, Pegasus, veered off the runway and caught fire at the airport.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Cahit Turan, pointed out that there were no casualties, while the Wali of Istanbul confirmed that the medical teams transferred 52 wounded to the hospital.

Television footage showed the crash of the plane's front, and passengers were seen leaving through one wing, and private NTV reported that 177 people were on board.

The plane had been exposed to high winds and heavy rain during its flight from Izmir, on the Turkish Aegean coast, to Istanbul.

The government radio and television agency, "TRT", said that the airport was closed, and firefighters were dispatched to the scene immediately and evacuations were still underway.
