A Westjet plane going to Jamaica had to turn around halfway after a bad joke. A passenger found it funny to pretend he was a carrier of the coronavirus, the Canadian company said on Tuesday.

The plane initially turned back to Toronto due to a "rowdy passenger," according to a Westjet spokesperson. Two hours after takeoff, the man got up to announce that he had recently stayed in China and contracted the coronavirus, reports CBC.

"It's just so selfish"

The crew gave him a mask and gloves and kept him away from the other 242 passengers on the plane, as required by the infectious disease protocol on board. "I guess the guy thought it was a funny joke, but it was really weird," said a passenger interviewed by CBC. We were all really frustrated, moving 240 people ... It's just selfish. "

"We lost a day of vacation," laments the passenger, who was traveling with her family. The 29-year-old man was arrested when he got off the plane. He will appear in court on March 9, according to Radio Canada.
