South African justice authorities issued an arrest warrant on Tuesday for ex-president Jacob Zuma for failing to appear in court the same day for his corruption trial, but the order will not be effective until effective May 6.

Absent for medical reasons?

Lawyers for the former head of state on Tuesday invoked medical reasons to justify the absence of their client before the High Court in Pietermaritzburg (east). But judge Dhaya Pillay felt lack of "reliable evidence". "An arrest warrant for the accused Jacob Zuma is issued but suspended until May 6, 2020," she said.
