Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said on Tuesday that "106 cases" of police suspected of radicalization are currently being studied by a specialized team. The Minister also specifies that these are "106 cases out of 150,000 police officers".

Police services are studying "106 cases" of police officers suspected of radicalization since the quadruple murder in the police headquarters on October 3, 2019 by a computer scientist working in the intelligence directorate, said Christophe Castaner on Tuesday.

"106 cases out of 150,000 police officers"

"Since October 3, we have 106 active cases where we are studying the matter. This does not mean that they are radicalized. And I would like to be clear: 106 cases out of 150,000 police officers," said Christophe Castaner on BFMTV . "There is a particular check, examinations that are done, to be sure. But beware: it is not because we are Muslim that we are radicalized, it is not because we are Jewish that "We are radicalized, it is not because we would be an atheist and fan of a football club that we would be radicalized. We have to put things in their place," he added.

"A precise evaluation grid"

"We have reports, we study them with a precise evaluation grid and it is women and men specialized in the fight against radicalization who speak out and who tell us the recommendations that need to be made," said the Minister of the Interior. "The risk exists especially now that there is an endogenous terrorist risk which leaves from unsuspecting, unidentified women and men," he warned.

Sixteen people have been "sidelined" from French intelligence since 2014 "for their potential radicalization or that of those around them," said the Prime Minister's services on January 21. On Wednesday, the parliamentary committee of inquiry into the dysfunctions that led to the attacks committed at the Paris police headquarters on October 3 is due to present the progress of its work.
