The Loire-Atlantique department is facing an increase in fuel thefts, reports the national gendarmerie. The most affected sector is that of Pornic, in the south-west of the department. Fortunately, the investigators made a good catch last week. Three teams of suspects were arrested within days.

First of all, on January 29, two individuals were arrested in the middle of a robbery and in possession of several cans filled with diesel fuel in a company in Saint-Père-en-Retz. The elements collected during the investigation make it possible to implicate them in a total of 17 incidents of aggravated theft (fuel, vehicles, livestock) committed in 2019 throughout the department. They will be judged on November 27.

The next day, two men who tried to hide in a vehicle were also discovered by a patrol, in Chaumes-en-Retz, about fifteen kilometers east of Pornic, in possession of several cans filled with diesel fuel and equipment needed to siphon fuel. They are also involved in a tool theft committed in November 2018 in the same commune. The car used was seized and the defendants are prosecuted by the prosecution for all their misdeeds.

Finally, Sunday afternoon, a patrol of the Pornic surveillance and intervention platoon controlled a vehicle on the Blue Route when it discovered several cans of diesel fuel and several batteries which come from the nearby recycling center, according to the driver's statements . The individual was placed in police custody and the vehicle immediately seized, specifies the gendarmerie.
