Read moreOfficially, this postponement of the legislative elections in Guinea is linked to "technical questions" and not political, unrelated to the request of the religious, ensures a government source. This 15-day postponement was made at the request of the Election Commission, which did not receive the electoral material on time.
These logistical problems, such as the delay in the distribution of voter cards and the payment of subsidies to parties facing the campaign, or the incomplete display of voters' lists are worrying certain parties in the running.
"Camouflaging the failure of the Ceni"
For Mamadou Bah Baadiko, leader of the UFD [Union of Democratic Forces], an opposition party, this postponement aims to " camouflage the failure of the Ceni [Election Commission]". A fortnight will hardly be enough to make up for these delays, continues this source.
Finally, we note the same skepticism, within the National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC), spearheading the protest in recent months. The FNDC denounces a maneuver by the authorities to give themselves time to couple this ballot with the referendum on the new Constitution. The FNDC intends to resume its citizen mobilizations from next week.
