Bergum's recreational farm has been around since 1988 and daily activities with animals and agriculture since 1992. Here, among other things, there are cows, sheep, rabbits, chickens and goats and organic farming is carried out on the farm.

At the beginning of the year, Angered's district council decided on an adaptation of the business. They believe that the district can no longer run the farm as before. The animals and agriculture will disappear.

- This to me was a shock. The animals mean a lot to me and my working friends and the contact with animals is important to us. We want to stay on the farm, says Maria Lilja, who has worked on the farm for five years.

Money is not enough

In Angered's district, those responsible say that the money is central from the municipality that is not enough to continue running Bergum's leisure farm.

- We have applied for money from the local council but have not been heard for it, therefore we must adapt the business, says Embla Sköldare, area manager for housing and personal support in Angered.

But the district has not been able to get any extra money.

"Gothenburg has a tough and strained economy at present and providing the extra resources has not been relevant," says Emmyly Bönfors (C), municipal council.

Association wants to save the farm

Bergum-Gunnilse's development is a non-profit association that wants to save the farm and continue the business in its current form. But that decision lies with the municipal council whether an association can take over the farm.

- We in the association have a great desire to save the farm. We also want to look at how you can develop the yard to get more places in your daily business. There is a great interest in preserving and developing ecologically, socially and sustainably here, says Erik Bick, chairman of the association.

Whether the business can be transferred from the municipality to an association is a matter that should be discussed at the municipal council's meeting on 5 February at the earliest.

- This daily business that we can go on is gold worth to us all, that is as much as we have learned here. When this disappears, a great joy disappears for us, says Maria Lilja, who works on the farm.
