A car from the Yea free floating carsharing network launched by Citiz in Rennes. - C. Allain / 20 Minutes

They sport a bright red that you cannot miss and three letters inscribed on their sides which give their name "Yea". Launched on Monday by the Citiz carsharing service, this new “free floating” car rental system is unprecedented in Rennes. Thanks to your mobile phone, you can locate and borrow a car for several hours and go where you want. One condition: bring the small red Toyota Aygo in the intrarocade so that someone else can rent it.

Offered from two euros an hour, this new rental system will have 20 cars and aims to attract new customers. “Our car-sharing service may seem rigid in the eyes of some because it is necessary to reserve and return the car at a given time. With Yea, we are offering a more spontaneous, perhaps younger, use, ”explains Sandrine Cartier, car-sharing manager at Citiz.

A booming number of subscribers

Launched under the name of Cityroul ', the car-sharing service joined the national Citiz network in July, already established in most major French cities. A novelty that has clearly boosted new memberships, the number of which flirts with 3,000 in the Breton capital. And encouraged the metropolis, which oversees the service, to develop the number of vehicles (55 throughout the city) and drop-off stations (38 to date).

Citiz also sees more and more professionals trust it to avoid having to manage an often expensive fleet of vehicles. “We don't always realize it, but a car is expensive every day, even if it doesn't drive. For casuals, car sharing is much more interesting, you just have to do the math, ”promises Sandrine Cartier.
