Coronavirus: China Builds Hospital in Ten Days - 20 Minutes

China has managed to build a hospital in just 10 days on the outskirts of Wuhan, the city where the coronavirus epidemic started in December 2019. The establishment of 1,000 beds, built in record time, has opened its doors this Monday, reports France Inter.

To achieve this feat, it took the hard work of thousands of workers and the incessant broom of hundreds of excavators since January 24, the start date of the work. The staff took turns day and night with 9 to 12 hours of daily work.

Only in 10 days! More than 4,000 workers, thousands of equipment, and 10 days and nights of work, the 34,000-square-meter Huoshenshan Hospital has been completed in #Wuhan, Hubei Province, on Sunday. 1,000 beds will be available on Monday. pic.twitter.com/SdPlRyfrHG

Another hospital soon to be built

The land was first prepared, then a concrete slab was poured to accommodate the prefabricated. The workers then received the equipment. Called "Hospital of the God of Fire", the establishment covers an area of 25,000 m².

The Chinese authorities do not intend to stop there: another hospital with 1,300 beds will also be built on the other side of the city to accommodate other patients with coronavirus. The manufacturing of the two buildings is expected to cost 300 million yuan (39 million euros). The country is used to rapid construction: in 2003, during the SARS epidemic, a hospital had been built in less than a week in Beijing.
