The Municipal Police of Madrid has denounced before the State Agency of Air Safety Agency (AESA) to an American tourist for flying a drone in the Plaza Mayor, since it is a prohibited activity that can lead to a fine of up to 90,000 euros.

Police sources have informed Efe of this incident, which occurred this Saturday at 6:30 p.m., when a pedestrian alerted the agents of the South Central Unit of the existence of the device in the Plaza Mayor.

The agents observed a drone flying over an agglomeration of citizens and about 10 meters from one of the facades.

According to sources, the flight of this device was jeopardizing the safety of pedestrians, as well as possible helicopter flights from emergency services.

The agents followed the drone's trail and located the pilot, on the fourth-floor terrace of one of the Plaza Mayor's apartments.

The device was of the DJI brand PHANTOM4 model, weighed 1.4 kilos, measured almost 40 centimeters and had no identification plate, police sources have pointed out.

In this way, the agents have denounced the man before the State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) for failing to comply with the regulations to fly this type of unmanned aircraft and not having authorization to operate on crowds of buildings or meetings of people.
