Three people were injured in an attack in the British capital, a London ambulance said.

“We helped three injured at the scene and took all three to the hospital,” the organization said.

Medical services claim that doctors arrived at the scene four minutes after the call. All three victims were assisted on the spot, after which they were all hospitalized. The police said that in the case of one of the three victims there is a threat to life.

According to police, an unidentified man attacked passersby with a knife in the Stratham area, located in the south of London. According to Scotland Yard, the incident occurred at about 14:00 local time (17:00 Moscow time). The attacker was shot dead by the police who arrived at the scene. It is noted that law enforcement agencies consider the incident in the south of London as an incident "related to terrorism"

Subsequently, the police clarified that a fake suicide belt was found on the body of the attacker, and the attack was “connected with Islamism”.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attacker carried a machete, and some objects resembling canisters were tied to his body.

“I was crossing the street when I saw a man with a machete and silver cans on his chest, which, I believe, was chased by a policeman in civilian clothes,” the Guardian reports. The witness added that after this attacker was shot dead.

Another eyewitness to the events in Stratham said that he heard shots, after which he saw a man lying on the ground.

“I heard a shot, followed by a 20-second pause. After that, three or four shots rang out one after another, ”he told the publication. According to the witness, the first victim was lying face down on the pavement, after which a woman appeared who informed others that she had been stabbed in the back with a knife.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed his condolences to the victims and thanked the emergency services for the prompt response to the events in Stretam.

“Thanks to all the emergency services responding to the Stratam incident, which the police announced was related to terrorism. My thoughts are now with the wounded and everyone affected by the incident, ”Johnson wrote on Twitter. London Mayor Sadik Khan also thanked the emergency services for their speed of response.

UK attacks
