Last summer, Snälltåget, which since 2012 has run three flights a week between Malmö and Berlin during the summer season, chose to have daily departures for two weeks.

The trains were fully booked and therefore the company runs this summer on departures Malmö-Berlin every day.

"The booking situation is 200 percent better than last year," says Marco Andersson, Marketing Manager at Snälltåget.

Want to attract Germans

Given the climate activist Greta Thunberg's breakthrough in Germany, the company also wants to try to attract Germans to take the train to Sweden.

-They have holidays and school holidays all August. This is the most bold period for us. We have been a little crazy about how much we dare to increase, but now we have a clear receipt that it was the right decision, says Marco Andersson.

In mid-March, SJ plans to release its tickets for July and August. Therefore, the company has so far no idea of the booking situation for the summer. But given the high demand for train journeys to the continent, SJ revised the timetable in December so that the changes in Malmö should work better.

Marked by interest

During 2020, travelers can board a train in Stockholm at 23 o'clock in the evening and arrive in Hamburg at lunchtime the following day.

-We have already noticed in this Train Holiday Group on Facebook that many people appreciate it, says Stephan Ray, press communicator at SJ.

In 2020 SJ will have three daily connections between Stockholm, Copenhagen and Hamburg. In the summertime it will include a nightly departure between Copenhagen and Hamburg. The timetable, which is valid for 2020, also means 10,000 more places per week on the Stockholm-Gothenburg and Stockholm-Malmö lines, which SJ says may increase further during the summer months.
