US activists from the Progressive Popular Movement are planning a huge "recovery project" aimed at punishing Republican Senators at the ballot box, against the backdrop of the activists' anger at what they described as a cover-up by members of the Senate during a trial to isolate President Donald Trump.

David Smith says in a report published in Britain's Observer newspaper that although prominent Republican members of the Senate admitted Trump's guilt on charges of abuse of power and obstructing the work of Congress, Republican members of the same council defied public opinion on Friday, by voting to prevent the presentation of documents and summons New witnesses as part of Trump's trial, including former National Security Adviser John Bolton, paving the way for the president's acquittal.

The Progressive Group announced that it would target nine Senators - including Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina loyal to Trump - in November elections.

The group says it will target a Republican senator by placing a full-page ad in one of their largest newspapers, noting that the ad will include a call to activists saying "anger is beneficial to recruiting, hello, are you angry at the trial too?" .

Documents and witnesses
The report indicates that the two trials that took place in the history of the United States to dismiss two presidents included documents and witnesses, but this did not happen in Trump's trial, where a majority vote was taken to not summon documents and witnesses, because it is among the senators who think that Trump did not commit any crime.

Smith adds that some people believe that these charges are only distortions, and that others believe that Trump committed a crime but does not deserve to be dismissed because of him.

The paper concludes that Republicans who do not agree with Trump may face a violent response from the president.
