The boss of the MoDem François Bayrou estimated Friday that the situation was "dangerous" in Bordeaux for the municipal ones, because of the situation of lone rider of LREM vis-a-vis the outgoing mayor allied with the MoDem. "I will do everything I can so that the list led by my friends (the outgoing mayor Nicolas Florian and his first assistant MoDem Fabien Robert) is supported as widely as possible", from the first round, added François Bayrou to the press .
The presidential party has put a problem in the wheels of the outgoing mayor "Macron-compatible" and MoDem, which remains its ally locally, with the inauguration in Bordeaux of the walker Thomas Cazenave. Also evoking the situation in the neighboring city of Biarritz, where a fratricidal war was looming, François Bayrou regretted "a totally baroque situation which has led to the division of the majority electorate in the city", echoing the words of Prime Minister Edouard Philippe.
The Biarritz precedent
Thomas Cazenave, head of the macronist list, has already said that he would not seek an alliance with any list in the second round. Above all, the polls already carried out in the city show that the list of outgoing mayor is closely followed by the union EELV-PS-PCF. A second round is therefore to be considered in a city which has not known any since the war.
"All this having been reasonably settled (by President Macron), I hope that all these currents of opinion come together," added François Bayrou. In Biarritz, the outgoing mayor MoDem Michel Veunac, candidate for his succession with the walker secretary of state Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne in his list, might have thought for a moment that he had to confront the Minister of Agriculture LREM Didier Guillaume.
The two members of the government withdrew their candidacy, at the request of the president.
