• Politics: Torra breaks with ERC and announces early elections in Catalonia without setting a date
  • Supreme Court: Refuses to annul the sentences of 'procés' by not "criminalizing ideas"
  • UE.Puigdemont runs out of group in the Eurocamara

The fourth crisis of Govern has turned out to be the final one. The Executive formed by JxCat and ERC had already been about to jump through the air on three other occasions, but the two great Catalan independence forces had decided to maintain their alliance of convenience to avoid being designated by the separtist electorate as the culprits of having betrayed «The 1-0 mandate», having derailed the process .

THE TELIGATIC RESEARCH OF PUIGDEMONT

The first of these crises took place already before the Catalan Executive himself began to walk, just after the legislature after the application of 155 began. It happened on January 30, 2018, when ERC and, specifically, the president of the Parliament , Roger Torrent, refused to telematically invest Carles Puigdemont, as intended by the fugitive and his training, JxCat. The warnings of the Constitutional Court led Torrent to invoke the investiture plenary planned for that date, a decision that Puigdemontno has forgiven him and that supposed the germ of the infinite disagreements between the members of Government that have occurred and aired since then.

After the failed attempts to invest Jordi Sànchez - twice - and Jordi Turull, Quim Torra would end up reaching the Presidency of the Generalitat on May 17, 2018 and on June 2 the counselors would take office, lighting up the bipartite Executive between JxCat and ERC.

THE SUSPENSION OF THE FOREWORD AS A DEPUTIES

Only four months later could the Catalan government break up. The suspension of Carles Puigdemont as a deputy by order of the Supreme Court unleashed an earthquake between the members of the Catalan Executive that led to elections without remedy. The situation was redirected in extremis through a meeting between President Torra and Vice President Pere Aragonès , which took place on October 5, 2018, in which they agreed to keep the legislature alive until the 1-0 ruling was announced.

THE JUDGMENT OF 1-O

The Supreme Court ruling, published on October 15, also endangered the Government. ERC spent the previous months suggesting that the best reaction to the sentence was to call elections, but Torra flatly rejected that possibility due to the obvious advantage of ERC in the polls. With the sentences on the table, the Republicans renounced their claim and turned to supporting street protests against Justice, even when violence broke out. In fact, those of Junqueras publicly affected Torra the charges of the Mossos d'Esquadra against the protesters to weaken him before elections that never ceased to be on the horizon.

THE LOSS OF THE ESCAÑO DE TORRA

The final crisis occurred last Monday in the Parliament, when Torrent followed the order of the Central Electoral Board and withdrew the seat to Torra. It was no use for ERC to offer the president to continue voting symbolically and shield his status as chief executive until the Supreme Court resolved his appeal and determined whether the disqualification was firm. Torra, Puigdemont and JxCat already had the electoral material they needed, they can blame ERC for having betrayed the president of the Generalitat for fear of the response of the Spanish Justice. An argument they hope is enough to reveal the polls and surpass the Republicans at the polls, as happened in the elections of 21-D, when Junqueras started as a favorite and Puigdemont ended up imposing.

Today Torra has terminated the legislature and has announced that it will call elections as soon as the Budgets have been approved by the Parliament, something that could happen at the end of March or beginning of April.
