"Decisions" must be announced Wednesday at the end of the day to resolve the conflictual situation created by the rival candidacies of two members of the government, Didier Guillaume and Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, for the municipal elections in Biarritz, said the government spokesperson.

"Decisions will be announced today at the end of the day" with "the objective of ending local divisions," said Sibeth Ndiaye after the cabinet meeting.

Emmanuel Macron received the Minister of Agriculture Didier Guillaume Tuesday evening "and he wanted" order to return to what may appear to be disorder "in Biarritz, she said.

Prime Minister Edouard Philippe estimated in mid-January that it was "not conceivable that two members of the government could be candidates against each other in the long term", after the announcement by Guillaume that he presented to Biarritz a list opposite to that of the outgoing mayor (MoDem) Michel Veunac, on which is presented the Secretary of State for Tourism and Foreign Trade Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne.

Mr. Guillaume assured Tuesday that he "will respect the arbitration of the President of the Republic". "It is not possible for two members of the government to stand against each other, even if my colleague is on a list and I aspire to be mayor," he added on BFMTV and RMC.

La République en Marche is preparing to formalize, during its executive office on Wednesday evening, its support for Michel Veunac for the elections of March 15 and 22.
