Argentinian Juan Martin Del Potro, removed from the courts since June 2019, was again operated on the right knee on Monday in Miami, and will start his recovery after "difficult times", he said on social networks .

The former world N.3, 31, had undergone a first operation last June in Barcelona to repair his fractured kneecap in Queens (London), during the grass season. He had started a recovery process with the ambition to return to the circuit in October to participate in the ATP tournaments in Stockholm and Vienna.

But the plans for the winner of the 2009 US Open were thwarted by recalcitrant knee discomfort, which led to a new operation in Florida.

"After discharge from the hospital, it is now time to rest at home. A very big thank you to everyone for your support during these difficult times", tweeted the "Tandil Tower" (1.98 m), with a photo of him on crutches, without specifying a date for his return to competition.

The Argentinian had managed in 2016 to return to the fore after three operations of the left wrist (March 2014, January and June 2015), winning the silver medal at the Rio Games. He then won the Indian Wells Masters 1000 and rose to the final of the US Open in 2018.

Del Potro had previously undergone a first surgery, on the right wrist, in May 2010.
