Ed Griffiths, appointed interim boss of the Saracens in early January, European and English champion rugby club relegated at the end of the season for repeatedly exceeding the salary ceiling, has resigned with immediate effect, the club in the suburbs announced on Tuesday. London.

Former leader of the South African Rugby Federation, Griffiths returned to Saracens in early January with a one-year contract to help the club weather the turmoil it has fallen in after the overwhelming revelations of an independent report.

In a press release, the one who did not seem to have been the man of the situation, explained that he had only been recalled for a temporary mission.

"There has always been talk of a short-term mission, and others (at the club) are capable of leading the reconstruction of the club," he insisted.

A detailed investigation in an independent report led the English Rugby League (PRL) to fine Saracens in early November at 5.3 million pounds (6.2 million euros) and a withdrawal of 35 points from the rankings, before announcing, last week, the outright relegation of the European champion team 2016, 2017 and 2019.

According to the report, the Saracens "have continually and recklessly broken their obligations to cooperate with the manager of the salary cap," and have broken regulations on salary caps in five of the past seven seasons.
