In all cases, this is due to airlines leaving the airport, in whole or in part.

According to the Swedish regional airports organization, ten percent or 275,000 of the passengers disappeared from the smaller regional airports. Swedavia lost four percent.

"The most likely reasons are the introduced air tax and the ongoing climate debate on aviation, although an on-going economic downturn may also have an impact," Peter Larsson, CEO of Swedish regional airports, writes in a press release.

He urges the government to act to save the airports, which report increased deficits as passengers disappear.

Stop the business

In August, the flight between Jönköping and Stockholm resumed. When the company Bra announced that it would close the route between Jönköping and Stockholm, it came as a cold shower for the airport. This meant that all regular flights were gone. After that, the airport worked to find a new operator, and in August last year it was time for the premiere tour with Air Leap.

- Of course it feels extremely good. It is extremely important for Jönköping Airport to have regular traffic both domestically and abroad, there is no doubt about that. It has been a long stop now since Bra stopped flying in June, said Rony Forsberg, CEO of Jönköping Airport in August.
