Britain submitted to the UN Security Council a draft resolution calling for a permanent ceasefire in Libya, and requests the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, to submit proposals to monitor the truce, including contributions from regional organizations, according to the text of the resolution seen by Agence France-Presse.

The Security Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on Libya today, but many diplomats have ruled out the possibility of adopting the resolution in that session, due to the divisions that still diverge between members of the Council over the Libyan file.

The draft resolution, which is still being negotiated in the corridors of the Security Council, stated that the council approves the results of the international summit, which was held in Berlin on January 19, on Libya, and calls on all member states to comply fully with the arms embargo imposed on Libya since 2011, and calls All member states, once again, not to interfere in the conflict, or to take measures that exacerbate it, and calls on both parties to the conflict to commit to a permanent ceasefire.

The draft resolution also states that warring forces must be separated, confidence-building measures established between the two camps, and requests Guterres to submit proposals on possible mechanisms for monitoring the ceasefire, including contributions from regional organizations, in an implicit reference to the European and African federations that could send Armistice observation crews.

At the conclusion of the Berlin conference, which lasted for a few hours, the main countries involved in the Libyan conflict pledged to abide by the international ban on sending weapons to Libya, and not to interfere in the internal affairs of this country. After the conference, the Security Council called, in a statement, the parties to the conflict in Libya to Achieving, as soon as possible, a ceasefire, allowing the revival of the political process aimed at ending the war in this country.
