The Croatian Ministry of Defense announced that a member of the crew of a Croatian military helicopter was killed and another missing due to the plane crashing into the sea today, Monday.

The helicopter, "Kiowa Warrior", fell in the Zlaren Strait south of Sibenik, on the central coast of Croatia overlooking the Adriatic.

The ministry added that the army and coast guard are still searching for the missing crew member.

Defense Minister Damir Krestetsevich said at a press conference that the wreck was located at a depth of 30 meters, and that all Kiwa helicopters had been suspended from service pending an investigation into the accident.

Since 2009, NATO Member Croatia has acquired 16 OH-58D Kiwa Warrior attack helicopters as a US donation in 2016 to replace the Russian Mi-24.
