Lavrov explained that the initiative to hold a summit of Russia, Britain, France, the USA and China is aimed at implementing these measures.
“Its essence is in the most serious way, without politicization, ideologization, and without regard to electoral cycles, to consider ways to reduce the tension, which has been dangerously growing in recent years, ways that will stop the further sliding of the world to confrontation,” he explained.
The Kremlin said earlier that Russia sent a message to four countries - permanent members of the UN Security Council detailing the idea of the summit.
On January 23, during a speech at a forum in Israel, Putin recalled the responsibility of Russia, China, the United States, France and Britain for the preservation of civilization, and suggested that the leaders of these countries meet for a serious discussion.
French leader Emmanuel Macron supported this initiative.
Later, Beijing also expressed willingness to meet. In London, they said they were awaiting details on the proposal.
