The cause of the hole soon identified

Two pavilions located within this perimeter were evacuated and two families were relocated by the town hall or with relatives. Experts are still unaware of what caused the hole to be created. "It is the services of the Bureau of Geological and Mining Research (BRGM) that will identify this hole," said the firefighters.

It could for example be a marnière, a hole dug suddenly and caused by the exploitation of chalk in the Norman subsoil. But it could also be a concrete block, a sudden depression in the ground in which the runoff comes to nest, says 76actu .
