At least 20 people were killed and more than a thousand were injured due to the earthquake which, on Friday evening, made the eastern sector of Turkey tremble. And rescuers still continue to search for survivors under the rubble.

After the earthquake, of 6.8 degrees on the Richter scale and which had as its epicenter the small lakeside town of Sivrice, in the eastern province of Elazig, about thirty people miss the appeal: they are buried under one of the collapsed buildings. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan assured that every effort will be made to help the people involved: "We are next to our people," he wrote on Twitter.

The earthquake was felt at 20.55 local time yesterday, at a depth of 6.7 kilometers. The first shock was followed by numerous other aftershocks, the strongest with magnitude 5.4 and 5.1.

Elazig is located about 750 kilometers east of the capital, Ankara.
