Rainfall is the worst measured since the measurements began 110 years ago, according to the National Weather Institute. In 24 hours, 172 millimeters of rain was registered in the state capital Belo Horizonte, writes AFP news agency.

Houses must have collapsed and race occurred due to the heavy bursts, which should have lasted for two days. At least seven people were also injured and 16 were reported missing, reports AFP. Of the 30 who died, at least one person should be a child.

"I deeply regret the deaths that have occurred, especially that of a child, as a result of the heavy rainfall ever recorded in Belo Horizonte and the history of the metropolitan region," said Minas Gerai's Governor Romeu Zema according to O Globo.
