- I think there are benefits to voting no, the most important thing is that we focus on results for the environment and the climate, says the municipal council Emyly Bönfors (C).

The Environmental Party, the Left Party and the Feminist Initiative supported the proposal, for a while it looked like they would be supported by the Democrats and thus a majority, but the Democrats ducked and went out with their own request.

- We are disappointed with all other parties, the Democrats who said they supported but chose not to vote for it. But already in about a week and a half, there is a motion in the municipal council from MP, V and Fi that the climate should be included in all the committees' regulations, so that the climate also sets the framework, not just the economy, says Karin Pleijel (MP).

Is there a plan anyway

Although the City Council now refused to announce climate emergency, there is a plan - Fossil-free Gothenburg - adopted by the City Council and which says that if Gothenburg is to meet the Paris agreement's 1.5 degree target, then if the City of Gothenburg is serious, greenhouse gas emissions decreases by 32 percent per year until 2030 when they should be down to zero.

Can you promise that the municipality will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 32 percent this year?

- I make no such promises, but I work to reduce emissions levels throughout the city, says Emyly Bönfors (C), Municipal Council Environment and Climate.
