A woman missing on New Years Eve was found dead Thursday in Toulon, after her partner admitted to having killed her and told investigators the location of her victim's body, the prosecutor said. Republic.

The body was found in the Mont-Faron sector in Toulon, announced prosecutor Bernard Marchal, confirming information from Var-Matin .

"Questioned this morning by the investigating judge, the accused made a confession and he proposed to designate the place where he had disposed of the body. The body was found on his instructions by the gendarmes, "said Bernard Marchal. An autopsy will be performed Friday morning.

Precedents of domestic violence

The young woman, mother of four, had not given any sign of life since the night of New Year's Eve, when she went out to celebrate Christmas Eve with her partner in a restaurant in Toulon. Five days after Christmas Eve, the latter had been indicted and imprisoned for "intentional homicide by cohabiting partner". The man, also in his thirties, had already been condemned several times, with precedents of domestic violence.

After the evening at the restaurant, the prosecutor had explained, the two concubines in the conflicting relationship were said to have quarreled in the suspect's car, in which the mobile phone of the missing had been found.

The family of the victim, originally from Brignoles (Var) had launched a call for witnesses via the local press the day after his disappearance before organizing searches near the respondent's home in the Toulon region.

In 2019, at least 126 women were killed by their partner or ex-partner, according to a provisional AFP count
