See the history of the Swedish nuclear bomb

Sweden had far-reaching plans to procure nuclear weapons during the Cold War. But the project was shut down in the 1970s in exchange for protection from the US nuclear weapons umbrella. That's what Robert Dalsjö says at the Swedish Defense Research Institute (FOI).

Join SVT News for the Swedish nuclear weapons project in Ågesta outside Stockholm.

We tell the story of the Swedish nuclear bomb with the help of Robert Dalsjö, who is one of the world's leading experts on Swedish-US military cooperation during the Cold War.

He believes that the Swedish nuclear weapons project was of great importance for Sweden to get a "nuclear weapons guarantee" from the USA.

Both Sweden and the US have said that such a guarantee does not exist today.
