A trio of Russian teenage girls, led by Alena Kostornaia, took over after the short program at the European Figure Skating Championships on Friday in Graz (Austria).

Kostornaia, recent winner of the prestigious Grand Prix final and, at sixteen, the oldest of the three, widened the gap, with a total of 84.92 points, over Anna Shcherbakova (77.95 pts) and Alexandra Trusova (74.95 pts), fifteen years old both.

For Trusova and Shcherbakova, the challenge of the free program, scheduled for Saturday evening, will be to catch up on Kostornaia with quadruple jumps, which they have largely participated in imposing on the international senior scene since the start of the season.

Kostornaia, she will count on her triple Axel, which she is the only one of the three to master, to stay at the top.

The highest-ranked Frenchwoman, Maé-Bérénice Méité, ranks eighth (60.64).

In the evening, place in the free program for couples. He too should give a smile to Russia: his three pairs take over the provisional podium.
