Statistics issued by the Environment Agency in Abu Dhabi confirmed that it operates 22 air quality monitoring stations in Abu Dhabi, and an international laboratory for measurement and calibration, revealing the work of an inventory of air emissions in Abu Dhabi, according to 50 detailed maps representing the determination of emission sources in each sector with high accuracy, noting that they Emission standards were established within three industrial sectors through the environmental "commitment" campaign, which included concrete, hot asphalt, iron and steel, which were identified as a major contributor to the increase in air pollutants in the atmosphere.

In detail, the Secretary-General of the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, Dr. Sheikha Salem Al Dhaheri, stated that the Authority has taken serious measures to improve air quality in Abu Dhabi, which was to launch an inventory of air emissions in the emirate, which includes scientific data that helps in implementing the air quality management program, noting that the authority and During its "Commitment" campaign, it set emissions standards within three sectors that included (concrete, hot asphalt, iron and steel), which were identified as a major contributor to the increase in air pollutants in the atmosphere.

In its response to the Emirates Today’s inquiries, the authority emphasized that population growth in Abu Dhabi leads to increased emissions from various activities such as desalination and power generation, construction work, industry, and transportation, in addition to increasing demand for different resources, noting that they are in As part of its endeavor to measure and manage pollutants, more efforts are being made to collect information about air quality in more accurate ways, so that strategies to improve air quality can be developed.

The authority indicated that it has developed one of the best air quality monitoring networks in the Arab Gulf region, which includes 20 fixed stations and two mobile stations to monitor air quality, and this network provides the authority with comprehensive and accurate information about air quality, as well as its ability to compare data and information with international standards and standards.

She explained that the main axes of the work of the air quality monitoring network include an international laboratory accredited for measurement and calibration, which represents the cornerstone on which air quality control operations are based, and the quality standards and procedures to achieve the best results. She emphasized that, based on a comprehensive study on the major industries responsible for increasing the air pollutants in the atmosphere, 10 industries have been found that require strict regulations to control their emissions, including electricity generation, iron and steel industry, ready-mixed concrete, asphalt, and the galvanized iron industry.

Emission standards review

The Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi confirmed that, in the context of achieving local and national goals in regard to air quality, it undertook a review of emission standards from fixed sources, and ways to control these emissions through a reference comparison with global best practices and available technology.

She indicated that she made the air quality data available to the public through a free electronic application called "Bloom Air Report", which was developed by the company "Bloom Labs", and this application helps the residents of the emirate to know more information about air quality, in order to better plan their activities in The open air.
