The American Mikaela Shiffrin, triple defending champion of the big crystal globe, confirmed Friday her great versatility by winning the World Cup downhill in Bansko (Bulgaria), the second victory of her career in this discipline.

The American has already won in the five major alpine disciplines (slalom, her specialty, giant, super-G, downhill and combined) and has therefore added a 65th World Cup victory to her collection before the Italian Federica Brignone (at 18 hundredths) and the Swiss Joana Haehlen (at 23 hundredths).

Mikaela Shiffrin was already on the downhill podium at Lake Louise this season (2nd in December), an event she won in December 2017.

She thus moved up to 2nd place in the classification of the specialty, behind the Swiss Corinne Suter, and consolidates her lead in the general classification (280 points ahead of Federica Brignone).

The course trapped many favorites who failed to complete the race, including Italian Olympic champion Sofia Goggia and Austrian crystal globe champion Nicole Schmidhofer.
