  • Justice: The Electoral Board disables Quim Torra and withdraws immunity as a MEP from Oriol Junqueras

The Supreme Court on Thursday maintained the disqualification as deputy of the president of the Generalitat Quim Torra. As EL MUNDO advanced, the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the High Court has rejected the precautionary measure presented by the defense of the independence leader against the agreement of the Central Electoral Board that declared Torra ineligible for public office and incompatible to exercise as Deputy in the Autonomous Chamber. The decision has been adopted unanimously.

The Chamber, chaired by Judge Luis Díez-Picazo , disregards the criteria of the Prosecutor's Office , which was in favor of paralyzing the execution of the Electoral Board agreement until there was a ruling on the merits.

In practice, the decision of the Supreme supposes that Torra must already leave the seat in the Parliament because it is the agreement of the Executive Central Electoral Board although the TS has not yet issued a sentence and has not ruled on whether said body was competent to disable it. .
