On Wednesday, two boys were arrested at the Tunaberg school in Uppsala with a plugged gun. Now the Moderates in Uppsala want to investigate the possibility of inserting metal detectors or metal arches into schools if necessary.

- We think there have been so many different incidents at so many schools and we want to look at how we can increase the safety and security at Uppsala's upper secondary and secondary schools. It is about creating better safety for both those who work in schools and those who attend school, says the municipal council Fredrik Ahlstedt (M).

"Don't want to stir up the mood"

According to police, it was not a working weapon found at Tunabergsskolan this week. But Fredrik Ahlstedt (M) wants everyone to feel safe at the schools, and thinks that it is not just about the individual event of the week.

- We have been talking about this for a long time and we think it is important to look at how we can increase security and get weapons out of schools. But we do not want to temper the mood of course, says Fredrik Ahlstedt (M).

Liberals doubtful

The moderates want to find out how it could be practical to install metal detectors and whether they could be monitored by, for example, security guards. The party will raise the proposal during the next municipal council meeting. But the Chairman of the Board of Education is more cautious in this matter.

-I don't say no, but I'm doubtful. I think we should think about what it sends signals to all our students about whether the school is a safe place or not. This is a drastic measure and requires reflection so that you know if it is the best measure to create security or not, says Helena Hedman Skoglund (L), chair of the education committee.
