A health official in Hebei Province, adjacent to Beijing, said that an 80-year-old man living in the province had died of pneumonia, which is thought to be due to a new type of coronavirus that is spreading in China.
The man returned to Hebei after staying in Wuhan, Hubei Province, was hospitalized and treated, but died on the 22nd. This is the first time deaths have occurred outside Hubei Province, where the spread of infection is most severe.
