Marine Le Pen, president of the National Rally (RN), said Thursday that she hoped to bring a maximum of elected representatives into municipal councils to win the following elections, during a support trip to the candidate of his left for the city of Nantes.

"Opposition municipal councilor is the best place to become mayor the next time", assured Ms. Le Pen in Nantes, where her party is not represented on the municipal council.

"These municipal elections, we envisage them as a whole with the departmental and regional elections" of 2021, she explained.

Marine Le Pen indicated that her party had three objectives for the municipal elections: "to keep the cities won" in the previous polls, to win new cities and to prepare the municipal elections which will take place in six years.

"The national gathering has expertise and a record in the management of its mayors which it can be proud of," also assured Ms. Le Pen.

In Nantes, The FN list led by Christian Bouchet had obtained 8.14% of the votes in 2014. This year, the objective of the RN candidate, Eleonore Revel, is to pass "the 10% mark".

Nantes has been ruled for several decades by a socialist majority. The outgoing mayor, Johanna Rolland, 40, is a candidate for re-election.

Besides Johanna Rolland and Eleonore Revel, four other women are candidates for the municipal election in Nantes: Julie Laernoes (EELV), Valérie Oppelt (LREM), Laurence Garnier (LR) and Margot Medkour (Nantes en Commun).
