The National Police has dismantled a criminal organization dedicated to the illicit traffic of vehicles accused of stealing 225 vehicles that were then resold in Spain and other European countries. The network was perfectly hierarchical and highlighted in it the achievers , the straw men and the pins . The operation, carried out in seven months, has culminated in the detention of 15 people as alleged perpetrators of misappropriation, fraud, documentary falsification, extortion and crime simulation.

The investigation began when agents learned of a complaint of extortion and threats. After several inquiries for the identification of its authors, the investigation led the police to discover the organization, as well as its components and the illegal activities they carried out.

One of the methodologies used to obtain the vehicles consisted in the fact that the main people in charge of the organization resorted to their achievers to contact other people, usually with few resources with a non-specialized function that they called straw men . These went with false payrolls to car dealerships where they managed to finance the model chosen in their name or using a usurped identity.

In spite of the non-payments of the financing, the credit companies did not denounce by criminal route since they considered that they were not carried out for criminal reasons , which allowed the organization to gain time for the transfer and subsequent illegal sale of the vehicle before it began the civil claim of the money owed . In addition, in the event that tourism was to be sold in Spain, they sought that the buyer reside in a city distant from the place of purchase.

On other occasions to get the vehicles, the straw men rented cars to agencies or private citizens paying the initial cost. All these modalities culminated in contact with potential buyers from our country or abroad. At this time, two other important members, the counterfeiters, are responsible for carrying out fraudulent proof of vehicle transfers and the passers, "who were in charge of the transfer by land of vehicles outside Spain through France to France. other countries.

Once the sale took place, the straw men simulated a crime denouncing the theft of the vehicles that were supposedly their property although if it was filed before the sale, they were victims of threats and aggressions.

During the registrations made - five in Madrid, one in Alcalá de Henares and another in Guadalajara - dozens of sales contracts, documentation relating to vehicles, computer equipment and several copies of virgin vehicle keys have been intervened as they made copies of the same to give the appearance of legality in the sale. Currently, the operation is still open and work is being done to recover vehicles through international police cooperation mechanisms, not ruling out new arrests.
