January 23, 2020 The financiers of the Locri group, under the coordination of the local Public Prosecutor's Office, identified 237 people, all residing in the Locride territory, who had applied for citizenship income, from April to December 2019, in the absence of the required requirements . With them 73 other people who signed the single substitute declarations (DSU) placed at the basis of the request for the benefit.

The activity resulted from the analysis of the numerous audience of subjects already reported for the phenomena of "false agricultural laborers" as well as "false tax refunds". During the checks, the most striking cases that emerged concern two people detained for the crime of association of the mafia type as part of the "Canada Connection" operation; an entire family unit attributable to a well-known 'Ndrangheta family, affected in most of its members by a definitive criminal conviction with the consequent interdiction from public offices (one of them, however, has been under arrest since April 2018); several income holders, some even for over 55,000 euros, which have not been indicated in the family unit; some owners of villas and luxury cars (including one who was the owner of a Ferrari as well as being the recipient of an order for pre-trial detention at home as part of the "Le Mille e una Notte" operation); business owners with an active VAT number who, despite having the obligation, had not filed any tax return.

The 237 undue earners were reported to INPS for the initiation of the procedure for revoking the benefits obtained, with the consequent recovery of the sums already paid which amount to approximately € 870,000 (a substantial amount if placed in relation to only 9 months of disbursement of the benefit). At the same time, the disbursement of the subsidy which would otherwise have led, up to the end of the period of disbursement of the measure, to a further loss of public resources of over 1,000,000 euros will be consequently interrupted.
