SVT has previously been able to tell you that Swish does not have its own permit from Finansinspektionen. This means that the payment giant does not go under any direct supervision or has a duty to report to the authority. Instead, it is the owners of Swish, the six major banks, who will have a dialogue with Swish and report suspected money laundering transactions.

No permission for Swish

As late as Monday, SVT was also able to reveal that the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority initiated a dialogue with the company behind Swish, GetSwish AB, about a possible permit requirement and on Wednesday the message came. In a press release, Finansinspektionen announced that:

“FI's investigation has landed in that GetSwish AB cannot obtain its own operating license given the current design of the law. It is with the bank that the customer enters into an agreement regarding Swish and only through the bank that the customer can start, change or terminate his Swish service ”.

Calls for a meeting on Swish's role in society

The authority also writes that they will continue the dialogue with Swish and that they also intend to invite the company's owners to discuss the investigation that the authority has done, and what risks they have seen with Swish role.

"The meeting should also be viewed in the light of the increased importance Swish has received as a payment service in Sweden," the authority concludes its press release.
