The Swedish Democrats want to stop the closure of two reactors at the Nuclear Power Plant in Ringhals and have therefore proposed that the Riksdag order the Government to give state Vattenfall new directives regarding the closure of Ringhals 1 and 2.

Two closed at the turn of the year, one closed at the end of the year according to a previous decision by the main owner Vattenfall and the smaller owner Uniper.

New permit required

M, KD and L have supported the SD proposal. But even if the four parties would win the vote, there are only a few votes missing in advance, it is still a long way before the Ring-neck reactors could be saved.

Restarting the closed Ringhals 2 will be expensive as large investments are required to get it in safety. New permits are also required.

Vattenfall has said that it is not relevant to strike back, the decision is made on business grounds.

"One consequence could be that there are conditions for driving Ringhals 1, but not 2," said SD's energy policy spokesman Mattias Bäckström in connection with the debate in Parliament last week.
