The Mauritanian Ministry of the Interior confirmed the arrest of an activist who said she suspected that he used an information system to produce and publish records that include insulting descent and inciting racism and hatred.

The Mauritanian Interior said this morning in a statement that the arrest came due to the commission of acts that fall under the scope of electronic crime, and that the security authorities continue the necessary investigations under the supervision of the Public Prosecution.

The statement added that "the procedures for search and investigation and the arrest within it are carried out in accordance with the rules of the Criminal Procedures Law, which guarantee to the persons subject to it all the legal rights guaranteed."

And local media announced on Tuesday that the security forces arrested an activist on suspicion of being behind the production of short video clips attacking the country's president, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani.
