The Recreation Board in Skellefteå decided that the municipality will in future also store artificial snow to make ski trails. Before this winter, snow was stored and the tracks could be run up early in the season.

Officials in the municipality suggested that snow storage would continue, it cost about SEK 60,000 - but annual passes for just over 200,000 have been sold and the municipality's ski clubs have had trainings two nights a week.

- We add it as a regular business and permanently add it. For the surprisingly small amount of money it has cost and in terms of the outcome it feels obvious. In the first year (2018) it cost around 100,000 and now last it has cost us 60,000 net, says the board chairman Joakim Wallström (V).

Have received visits from other municipalities

One explanation for the high revenue and lower costs is this season's lack of natural snow.

- We have received so good compensation from the skiers that it has not hit the taxpayers. If it had cost more we would have hesitated once in a while. This season it has been used and visitors from other municipalities have come and used it. I've seen IFK Umeå suits that ran here and understood that they had camped and skied here since, says Wallström.
