The long waiting times have in some cases made it too late to give the patient a curative treatment.

Ivo has reviewed the waiting period during the first half of last year for patients with cancer of the liver or pancreas, which the University of Skåne receives from the entire southern health care region.

Of the 115 patients who were categorized as high priority because of their serious illness, only 25 received surgery within the time specified in the so-called standardized care programs.

"It has also meant that some patients, where they were initially treated for curative treatment, had to undergo palliative care," says Malin Peterson, inspector at Ivo, to Ekot in Sweden's Radio.

- It is extremely serious, not least for the individual who is affected.

In the review, Ivo has also looked at the wait for cancer surgery in women's external genital organs, where the hospital accepts patients from all over the country, and where the authority finds that patients receive care within the appointed time.

Ivo now demands that Region Skåne report on how long-term care will be rectified by long-term care in a long-term perspective.
