Defense Minister Kono Requests Procurement of Defense Equipment U.S.A. Requests Cooperation for Improvement Jan. 20:31 on January 21

Regarding Japan's contract to procure defense equipment directly from the US government, Defense Minister Kono sought cooperation from US officials to improve delivery delays.

Over a contract called Japan's FMS, which procures defense equipment directly from the U.S. government, the Minister of Defense Kono met with Hooper, Director of Defense Security and Cooperation, who is in charge of FMS at the U.S. Department of Defense.

Minister Kono said, "We have been working to resolve issues such as delays in equipment delivery and settlement, but we need to improve our systems to speed up procurement." I asked for cooperation.

Mr. Hooper said, "I want to show that FMS will provide the best equipment in the world in the most efficient and fast way to Japan. We will discuss the concerns raised by Minister Kono with the Japanese side." I responded.
