January 21, 2020 First case of infection in the United States related to the new crown virus discovered in Wuhan, China. The Federal Health Center for Control and Prevention will announce the case in the afternoon of a person in Washington state who would have symptoms of the infection. Cnn reports it.

The fear of the landing in America of the mysterious new Chinese virus has triggered checks on passengers arriving from China to the three large US international airports: experts from the Centers for the Control and Prevention of US Diseases (Cdc) examine arrivals from Wuhan at the 'John F. Kennedy international airport' in New York, at the 'San Francisco international airport' and at the 'Los Angeles international airport'.

Suspicious symptoms on which the 100 doctors and health experts unleashed in the US airports keep their eyes open are: fever, cough, difficulty breathing. Experts use infrared thermometers to measure temperature. January - according to the CoC - is unfortunately the season with the highest number of trips between China and the United States and vice versa due to the celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year. In fact, at least 5,000 passengers from Wuhan are expected to pass through the three major airports. The decision of the Cdc to trigger the controls is very rare and denotes the alarm triggered for the new virus: the last time similar measures were put in place was 2014, for the Ebola virus, said the same director of the 'Division on Quarantine and Global Migration' of the US government centers, Martin Cetron.

Risk level rises from low to moderate in the EU
The European Center for Disease Control (ECDC) has raised the risk of Chinese coronavirus cases to 'moderate' from 'low'. We read it in a document on the center's home page, which recalls how 'the source of the infection is unknown, and may still be active'. Human-to-human transmission has been confirmed, the note continues, but more information is needed to assess its full extent. "For this reason - the ECDC continues -, the probability of infection for a traveler who visits Wuhan and has close contact with symptomatic individuals is considered moderate. Consequently, the risk of importing cases into the EU is also considered moderate ". Three airports in the European Union, experts recall, have direct flights to Wuhan, and there are indirect connections from other hubs. "The next Chinese New Year celebrations at the end of January - concludes the document - will cause an increase in the volume of travelers to and from China and within the country, thus increasing the risk of possible cases arriving in the EU".
