Al Mahameed - Kuwait

The culture of organic agriculture appears to be poor in the Arab world, unlike the western countries that have been fighting strictly the chemicals, vegetables and genetically modified fruits, and their people refuse that everything that enters their bodies is environmentally friendly and not harmful to health.

And in an advanced step on the Arab countries in general and the Gulf in particular, Kuwait took a different approach in everything related to agriculture, its tools and products, and witnessed - according to what experts think - a qualitative leap towards organic agriculture that has become specialized activists to raise awareness of its environmental and health importance, as these are keen in all activities And the activities to compare between organic farming and the use of fertilizers and chemical pesticides, and the catastrophic results that result from both human rights and the environment.

Kuwaiti activists in this field meet every year under the roof of the "farmers market", which includes the largest gathering of specialists in organic farming and all its tools and products in the country, where they promote and sell their products at symbolic prices, in addition to organizing workshops and activities for adults and children with the aim of spreading the culture of organic agriculture.

According to the administrative coordinator Khaled Al-Mutawa, the farmers market aims to promote the culture of organic and healthy food, and to avoid harmful and modified materials for a better lifestyle, as the market includes organic agricultural seedlings, organic fertilizer and organic food, all born from the womb of a youthful creativity that decided to open its own projects.

And because Kuwait was suffering from poverty in the organic materials it provided for agriculture, Umm Ali, one of the market participants, took the burden of providing it, and opened its "organic world" project, and its main objective was not the owners of reserves and large farms but rather homeowners. Citizens and residents interested in agriculture.

Umm Ali says, "With pride, Kuwait has made great progress in the field of organic agriculture since 2017," noting that the reason for the delay in Kuwait's launch in this field is the poverty of agricultural culture first, in addition to the scarcity of organic materials.

The first Gulf
Among the organic materials provided by the Pentecostal Lady include organic fertilizers, and microorganisms that are available in the soil such as beneficial bacteria, and microscopic fungi. According to Umm Ali’s words, “Kuwait is the first Gulf country to provide these materials.”

The organic farming community is not considered small in Kuwait. Rather, it is a broad society and its future will flourish according to Umm Ali’s expectations, which see that the markets in Kuwait are moving towards providing more organic fruits and vegetables recently.

For his part, the researcher in hydroponics Ali Al-Hamad - who participated in the market with organic agricultural seedlings at symbolic prices in support of Kuwaiti farmers - stressed that Kuwait produces one of the best fertilizers in the world, which is worm fertilizer, where worms produce 100% natural organic fertilizer for homes and reserves at costs It is not exorbitant, in addition to the agricultural improvements made from "coconut hair", which are achievements that are calculated for young people in Kuwait in this aspect, according to what praises.

According to him, the Kuwaiti society is no longer a consumer society only, but rather it has become a productive society that eats what is grown and sells its products that he planted and nurtured from a seed until it became a tree, and the proof is that the first factory to produce worm fertilizers in the Arab world is in Kuwait.

In addition to composting worms, Kuwaiti youth collect food waste, trees and animals and convert them into compost as well, and provide in the Kuwaiti market more than one natural organic option away from harmful chemicals.

And in "Barkan Burhi", a meeting will be organized by Muntaha Al-Baghdadi, which brings together agricultural enthusiasts, whether those who grow or provide services to the owners of agriculture, and cultivates several types of plants, including water plants, such as "lotus", "night water" and "Arrow Head", in addition to tulip bulbs and narcissus And many others, noting that there is a large number of people buying home-grown plants.
