As the Australian Open begins at home, Ashleigh Barty has consolidated her position as world number 1 in the WTA ranking, updated on Monday, ahead of the Czech Karolína Plíšková and the Romanian Simona Halep.
The 23-year-old Australian has prepared perfectly for "her" Open, which she will try to win for the first time, winning Saturday, in two sets 6-2, 7-5, the appointment of Adelaide (southern Australia), against Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (N.24).
By gaining a few points in this tournament, Halep, however eliminated in the quarterfinals, rose to the Japanese Naomi Osaka on the WTA podium.
In 41st place, Kristina Mladenovic is the first Frenchwoman, losing two places since last week. She is followed by Caroline Garcia in 46th place and, further on, by Alizé Cornet (61st) and Fiona Ferro (63rd).
