A new study indicates that men who take fish oil supplements that have a high content of omega-3 fatty acids may improve their fertility.

After examining data about 1700 young people, the researchers concluded in a report published in the journal Open Network that the consumption of fish oil supplements was associated with an increase in the number of sperms and the size of the testicles and the improvement of hormone levels that contribute to male fertility.

While all men can benefit from adding omega-3 fatty acids to their diets, the biggest impact will go to those with sperm dysfunction, said Tina Cold Jensen, who co-led the research team - a professor at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense.

Jensen recalled in an email that these types of fatty acids are essential to fertility.

Omega-3 fatty acids are found in many foods such as salmon, tuna, nuts, flaxseed oil and soybeans, as well as those in the form of nutritional supplements.

We point out here that you should not take any kind of dietary supplement without consulting your doctor first.
