Five men suspected of being involved in the theft and concealment of automobile accessories were arrested on January 14 after a gendarmerie operation carried out in Nantes, Saint-Herblain and Les Sables d'Olonne, announced the Rennes prosecution. The five suspects, four of Georgian nationality and one of Azerbaijani nationality, were indicted on Friday. Three were even placed in pre-trial detention.
Originally, several thefts of accessories were committed in garages in the west of France, in particular Loire-Atlantique, Vendée and Morbihan. BMW and Mercedes brand vehicles were mainly targeted.
They came by plane and left by car
The investigation identified individuals from Georgia by air. They stayed a few days, staying in Nantes with compatriots, and left by car with part of the booty which they sold on the spot to auto parts dealers. In total, 31 facts were identified, between May 2019 and January 2020, during seven stays. The overall damage exceeds 600,000 euros.
On the sidelines of the arrest of suspects, the Rennes prosecution also seized a stock of auto parts stolen recently from Quimper.
